Priorities Fund

Since 1980, the General Synod Priorities Fund (generally known as the Priorities Fund) has supported projects within the Church of Ireland. Every parish is asked to contribute to the Fund and the amount raised is allocated to the following categories:

◾Ministry◾Community;
◾Retirement ◾Areas of Need
◾Education ◾Outreach Initiatives

From time to time, to respond to a particular need, a new category is introduced for a specified number of years. Currently, in order to support and encourage the Church of Ireland in sparsely populated areas of the country, grants are being given under the heading ‘Innovative Ministry in a Rural Context.’

The Priorities Fund Committee recommends allocations to the Standing Committee for approval. The commitment to Growth, Unity and Mission are reflected when applications are assessed.

There is a particular emphasis on:
◾People rather than buildings
◾New projects rather than recurrent expenditure
◾Mission and Outreach rather than maintenance
◾Projects and programmes rather than structures
